Answer the following study guide questions.
What is “Integrated Business Planning” (IBP)?
It is a way to coordinate monthly business reviews, it helps businesses work together in a synchronized manner in order to operate smoothly.
What is “Sales and Operations Planning” (S&OP)?
It refers to an integrated planning process that aligns demand, supply, and financial planning; it is designed to support decision making in the executive field and approves a feasible and profitable material and financial plan. (Oracle, 2020)
What are the similarities between IBP and S&OP? Mention and describe them.

What are the differences between IBP and S&OP? Mention and describe them.

Drives the organization forward Focuses on aligning

How does the IBP process work? Describe in detail.
Five phases
Sense: builds a demand plan at a local and global company level to see how plants need to respond to demands for the products and services.
Shape: develops a forward looking and optimized demand plan with supply to see how the mismatches may affect your customer.
Collaborate: builds a strong alignment with local, regional and global teams to improve demand plans and supply forecasts.
Integrate: it brings everyone together to work with the same numbers and goals in order to produce a single optimized plan.
Orchestrate: publishing an optimized plan and adapt it to the changes that might come with slight or big variations in demand is the last phase.

What are the challenges of IBP?
It focuses on creating an integrated work environment, this can be hard because markets can sometimes be unpredictable and the chains of supply need to adapt to rapid change - they need to be resilient; in order to achieve this the margin of unplanned events needs to decrease, this is a big obstacle to overcome since it can never fully be eliminated (events like black swans make it impossible).
Which are the most common difficulties/problems when implementing IBP? Mention them and provide examples.
The most common difficulties tend to be with keeping up stock - in a new system that tries to coordinate everything it is a challenge to respond rapidly to the changes that a forecast may have, this affects our inventory, therefore shortage or overstocking can be common in the early stages.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of IBP?
Advantages
It helps accountability
Drives collaboration
Increases accuracy
Forecast accuracy
Safety stock reduction
Destruction/write offs savings
Improves service levels
Better networking capital
Positive impact on gross margin
Disadvantages
Implementing it can increase stress in the workplace
Long term results
High levels of capacitation needed
What is the importance of IBP nowadays?
If you are getting information from multiple sources without any order, it can be hard to get an accurate forecast and without one the expenses of the company will go up - this is a direct result of companies not knowing how much they should produce and therefore having too much or too little inventory therefore disrupting the chain of supply.

I like your answers, especially the last one, because I consider that the distortion of information can have consequences that affect the development of projects. You mentioned the supply chain, however, it also affects the rest of the departments, for example, a bad budget by the finance area can affect the purchase of machinery for the production area.
ResponderEliminarThe part where you mention that it is important to keep a count of what you have so as not to overproduce or leave customers dissatisfied because you do not have the necessary units to not leave them dissatisfied, seems accurate to me.
ResponderEliminarI think that in the question What are the challenges of IBP, it focuses on the measurement, monitoring and results of activities, also integrating processes.
