Task 1 Quality Management

  • What is Quality Management?

    • It is the act of implementing evaluations that try to ensure that the quality of a service or product improves, decreasing the marginal percentage of errors and mistakes that might develop throughout the production process.

It can be implemented through quality control or assurance, the main difference between these two is that the fist one inspects the process and takes out any defective product that might have risen, the second concept has a more efficient approach that actively tries to avoid the mistakes instead of taking them out, building the quality in and incorporating it as much as possible.

  • What is the objective of Quality Management?

    • To reduce the development of underqualified products and avoid these reaching our final customer, this helps businesses differentiate from their competition and reduces costs of marketing since building a loyal customer base begins with offering a good product after a good experience customers tend to recommend it and keep buying it, building us a loyal base.

Ensuring good quality of service or products into an organisation helps reliability, market reputation and exclusiveness - giving the business a name that will attract their target audience to them and therefore increasing their sales.

  • Which are the key components of Quality management? Describe in detail  each one.

  1. Plan: in the planning process we identify our goals and find strategies to make them happen, this helps us determine what procedures to use in order to ensure that we meet the criteria.

  2. Do: in this second component we train our employees and organise the documentation that will help us in order to complete our strategies, then we start implementing them.

  3. Check: when we check, it means we analyse and identify our strengths and weaknesses and see where we might have room for improvement.

  4. Act: in this last component we review our process and evaluate the way we did things, since it is a cycle we will start analysing once again what we can do to improve the next time we plan and begin the process all over again.

  • Describe what Quality Management involves. (process)

    • It involves completing a cycle that will help us ensure that each performance will be better than the last, this can get done through quality control or assurance but if we follow the key components of quality management, the outcome will be the same: a decrease in the errors that are possible to make and significantly improved results.

  • What does “Quality Improvement Methods” refer to? Explain in detail.

    • It refers to the different approaches that one may take in order to make sure our final products will be good, this may refer to the use, the packaging, the use, etc. The idea is to have a better understanding of the processes we take in our company and know the areas where we can improve and take action - therefore increasing our quality and reducing our mistakes.

  • What are the Quality Management principles that the International Standard for Quality Management adopts? Write a description of each.

    • Customer focus

      • It focuses on the quality of management of the relationship with customers and it’s main focus is to exceed expectations.

    • Leadership

      • It wants the leaders of the entire organisation to create amicable working conditions so people will feel motivated to achieve the quality objectives.

    • Engagement of people

      • It values individuality and believes that everyone in the organization needs to have a purpose and feel included in order to empower them and enhance their competence.

    • Process approach

      • It believes that results are easier to predict and remain consistent if the activities are understood and managed in a clear manner, interrelating the systems processes as one function.

    • Improvement

      • To remain constant in the quality and trying to keep making it better proves that the organization is working hard at maintaining their levels of performance and creating new opportunities.

    • Evidence-based decision making

      • Decisions that are based on hard facts and carefully thought-out results will bring around better rewards to the risks taken.

    • Relationship management

      • It refers to all the relationships that we keep with our associates in order to make the company work, this may include clients, employees and suppliers - it is imperative to maintain a good image with them as well as a friendly relationship.

  • What are the benefits of Quality Management?

    • Increases the standard

    • Reduces damaged product so it does not get to the customer

    • Minimizes disruption in the process of production

    • Reducing marketing costs

    • Increasing productivity

    • Differentiation in the market

    • Target audience reached

  3. I totally agree when you mention that quality helps reduce errors and therefore reduce costs. It is certainly a consequence that makes a company very competitive both internally and externally.I firmly believe that quality is an approach that should never be lost, since customers are the first and last filter of constructive criticism to improve
